This is a copy of the Hughes Family Tree as l know it. It is really Cherrington—Prose—Hughes down to the V generation and then it spiinters off into many diferent names. Down through the V generation. I am just copying but from there down. I am taking information from those who I can get it — and tne rest from memory.
I have several different sources or information and sometimes there is a slight variation between the bits of information but I will try to put the second choice in names or dates in parenthisis. I got so very mucn verification from a book written by Dean C. Cherrington. I would like to give thanks to all the relatives who sent me helpful information but I‘m afraid I might leave someone out so I will say thanks to everyone and please help me f1ll in the blank spaces.

1. Clement Cherrington, born in England in 1702 (or 1711), educated for a Priest in the Churcn of Engiand, but sailed for America on the day set for his trial sermon in 1750. First married in England to Mary Jones. Probably had three children: John, Mary, and Thomas. First settled in Long Island NY where he was married to Mary-Coles Matthews (a widow) born 1713 d. 1785. issues 3 Children: Thomas, Rachel, William. They then went to Pennsylvania.
 
 II.3. Wiliiem Cherrington, 3rd son of above union. Born in Berks County, Pa. Apr 19, 1779 died Apr 28, 1833. went to Virginia in 1775. Married to Margaret Hanks, (Aunt to Margaret Hanks (Mother to Abraham Lincoln) Feb 18, 1779. About 1805 settled in Chickamauga Creek near Gallipolis, Ohio. Margaret Hanks died Sep 22,1797. issue: 8 Children 2nd Marriage to widow Letitia McClung, Nov 28,1?97 born: Sep 11, 1765, died Sep 12, 1849. Progenitor of the Ohio brancn of tne family. issue 8 children.

  III.1. Thomas Cherrington, first son of William Cherrington and Margaret Hanks born Dec 5, 1779 d.May 24, 1844. Went to Onio with his father William. Got a deed from the U.S. Government signed by President James Madison, June 27, 1814 for land in Gallia County. Married to Sarah Westiake b.1782 d. Oct 10, 1848. Both buried in Néw Zion: Issue 14 children.

   IV.14. Rachel Cherrington, b.8.15.1826; d.1.8.1894 m.11.30.1844 to Josiah Paul Prose,b.12.9.1822; d.3.9.1866. Issue 11 children.

    V.1. Sarah Catherine Prose, b.10.23.1845; d.3.1.1926; m.12.22.1864 to George Henry Hughes, b.1.16.1843; d.4.29.1916. Civil War vet. issue 11 children viz.,

     VI.1. Charles Anderson Hughes b.10.1.1865; d.11.28.1935; m(1).6.30.1892 to Jessamine B. Roberts,b.2.28.1870; d.5.27.1924. issue 5 children viz.,
