Could her maiden name be Shultz?? This is indicted by Augusta co., VA Deed Book 61 pg 261 which says that the 107 acres Joshua T. Cress and Elizabeth, his wife, sold in 1840 are her dowry and that the land was bought in Sep. 1839 (Deed Book 60 pg 431 shows Joshua & Elizabeth Cress buying that land from Adam & Jane Shultz for $1.00. (SV-495)
1870 U.S. Census (Ancestry.com): Elizabeth Cress (60 VA) living in Meade, Upshur Co., WV with Joshua (25 VA); Nicholas (33 VA); Jane (40 VA); Sarah (28 VA); Mary (26 VA) George (23 VA) and George (6 WV).
