Proof that George Washington Cress is the son of George & Nancy Cress is based upon the sworn statement by Jane McKinney made in Claiborne Co., TN on 19 July 1872 related to Nancy Reed Cress’ application for a War of 1812 pension. (SV-1878.3)
In Kansas he was a mail carrier and United Brethren Minister.

1838 A George & Nancy Cress of Lee co., VA sold to William Halsey for $400 a 100 acre parcel in Smyth co., VA on the headwaters of the South Fork of the Holston River bordering land owned by John Cress. Was this him or George & Nancy Reed Cress ?? (SV-477)
