John Garrison lived near the top of Black Mtn. during the Civil War years. He is said to have supplied horses for the Union Army while some of his wife, Rachel, relatives were Confederate sympathizers - which made for very bad and long lasting feelings between the two families. as per Dana Pierson, Jan. 2002.
