Sometime after Thomas’ murder, Sally was institutionalized for insanity. Their children were placed in an orphanage. About 1939 the orphanage contacted James Alvis Cress and informed him of the situation. Beatrice Cress was placed with Ollie in Kansas City or St. Louis. Irene and Earl were placed with James Alvis Cress. (SV-596)
Earl was picked up somewhere near Somerset while hitch-hiking. He was shot and murdered at a gravel pit in Laurel co., KY a few miles east of the Pulaski co. line off old Hwy 80. His body was taken near the Burdine Valley and dumped in a field near the road. (SV-596)
