Notes for Dolly or Dorothy Bausley or Bausell
Note: This is very speculative:
Her surname may have been BOSWELL. I have shown her as daughter, Dorothy, of Isaac & Eliz. Boswell. (SV-1266 pg 94)
She may be Dorothy Boswell (b. 1769 Cane Creek, Chatham Co., NC). (SV-1258)
Her father may have been Isaac BOSWELL. (SV-1258)
No BAUSLEY - 1782-1787 VA Tax Lists (35 counties incl. Washington & Montgomery but not Russell). (SV-897)
Benjamin Beasly was a Rev. War veteran in Grayson Co., VA in 1832. (New River Notes for Grayson Co.)
Early Settlers of Lee Co., VA says she probably died before 1830. (SV-938)
1773-1789: No Bausley bought or sold land in Montgomery Co., VA. (SV-893)
1778-1841: No Bausley bought or sold land in Washington Co., VA. (SV-889)

1791 Dorothy Boswell was dismissed from the Quaker meeting house in NC (at the Pasquotank Monthly Meeting). (SV-1258)
Descendant of Barnabas Boswell says the record at the “Friends Historical Collection” at library of Guilford College, NC as she was dismissed 11-19-1791 Dorothy Boswell disowned for being illegitimate with child. (SV-1276)
Pg 130 of Quaker Ency.: 19 Nov. 1791 Dorathy Boswell dis. (SV-1266)
Note: The Pennington’s who settled into Lee Co., VA were Quakers from Wilkes & Rowan Co., NC, so Dorothy once disowned by the Friends could have been friends with Penningtons and moved with them to Lee Co., VA. (SV-1279)
Here parents might have sent her to live with Boswell relatives in Loudon Co., VA and this might be where she met Drury Fletcher. (SV-1279)
Edgar’s vol. 2 hints they may not have been married. (SV-404 pg 315)
Edgar’s analysis says that Dolly Bausell already had 4 daughters when she became a housekeeper for Drury Fletcher in his later years. (SV-404 pg 364)
Bill Bailey says in 1798 she became his housekeeper. (SV-1276)
It was sometime during this period (1809 when Drury was petitioning to divorce Sarah Benham) that Dolly Bausell (or Bausley) became his housekeeper. (SV-404 pg 364)
1816 He deeded to Dolly Bausell (and after her death to her 4 children), his homeplace, “for love and affection and for other services she has done me for some years past.” (SV-404 pg 364)
