He joined the Continental Army in 1777, at Woodstock, VA, in Buck’s Minute Men, under Colonel Muhlenberg, and served through the Revolution. Was wounded once. After the war, he settled at Middlebrook in Augusta Co., VA. He was buried at St. John’s Graveyard. His will, written in German, was probated at Staunton. He left to his fifteen children land grants in Kentucky received for service in the French and Indian War.
